Bruselas quiere prevenir el daño auditivo reduciendo el límite máximo al que se puede escuchar música en MP3 con auriculares.La Comisión Europea ha propuesto una medida para fijar nuevos estándares de volumen para los reproductores de archivos de audio MP3. El objetivo de la medida es ayudar a prevenir el daño auditivo de aquellos usuarios que utilizan sus auriculares con la música excesivamente alta.Según Meglena Kuneva, comisaria europea de Protección de los Consumidores, “la evidencia es que particularmente las personas jóvenes, que escuchan música a niveles elevados a veces durante horas a la semana, no tienen idea de que pueden estar poniendo en riesgo su audición”.La voz de alarma, fue dada el pasado mes de enero, cuando un del Comité Científico sobre Riesgos Sanitarios de la Unión Europe reveló que escuchar música con un volumen muy alto con reproductores de música durante un tiempo prologado causaba problemas de pérdida de audición y sensación de zumbido y ruido en los oídos (tinnitus). Stephen Russell, del grupo de seguridad de los consumidores paneuropeo ANEC afirmó entonces que estaban “vislumbrando una catástrofe”. “Hay que hacer algo rápido”, señaló.Kuneva ha dicho que entre el 5 y el 10 por ciento de los usuarios de MP3 corren riesgo de pérdida de la audición. "Puede llevar años notar el daño auditivo y luego simplemente es demasiado tarde”.La Comisión quiere fijar los estándares como norma para los nuevos productos tras un procedimiento de consulta con científicos, industriales y consumidores de 24 meses.
